Listening Room Design Services

Perhaps you have a conference room that could make a fine listening environment. Or possibly you already have a listening room, but it isn't working well for you (most don't). Stroud Audio uses science and careful listening to develop either room into a room that can provide an enveloping and rewarding musical experience.

If you are working for an automotive OEM in an area that deals with audio tuning, it is important to have a reference listening room to establish a standard for your team. This is also true if you are a speaker developer or music producer who wants a critical environment for sound evaluation of a music mix.

The Scientific Approach to Great Sound

SAI will visit your company's site and understand your goals and constraints. We then evaluate noise issues and then test the current room's bass modes characteristics. Techniques we will use in the design process include:
- Noise suppression and isolation
- Bass mode correction (very important)
- Ray tracing to determine where surface
  treatment is needed
- Equalization and loudness adjustments
- Ambience support

Your Listening Room Equipment

Stroud Audio can select and install speakers, amplifiers and other equipment for your room. We can also incorporate your company's audio products into the design and optimize the acoustic presentation of those components.

Your loudspeaker drivers and completed speaker systems can be accurately and fully characterized. Data can include these speaker measurements:
- Frequency response, on and off axis
- Impedance vs. Frequency
- Distortion: THD, IM, three signal, etc.
- Power Compression, a measure of 
  bass capability at high signal levels
- Thiele-Small parameters
- Large-signal parameters
- SPL and Power handling capability

In addition to these objective measurements, we use subjective measurements such as SAI's "chord" intermodulation distortion test.

Your candidate home speakers can be measured in quasi-anechoic and in more realistic room environments.
